MANILA – The case doubling time for the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) in Quezon City is now at 44 days, data from the University of the Philippines (UP) OCTA Research team showed.

Ipinapakita ng case doubling time ang bilis ng pagdoble ng kaso sa isang lugar. Ang mas mababang case doubling time ay nangangahulugang mas mabilis ang pagdami ng kaso (The case doubling time reflects how fast the number of Covid-19 cases in a specific area doubles. A lower case doubling time means that the speed of duplicating or doubling of cases is faster),” the city government said in a Facebook post on Thursday night.

The OCTA Research team said the number of new cases in Quezon City has continuously declined in the past four weeks, based on September 29 data from the Department of Health (DOH) and the City Epidemiology and Disease Surveillance Unit.

The number of recorded daily cases also went down from September 16 to 22. From 122 cases, the number declined to 41 new cases daily.

Meanwhile, the city’s reproduction number (R0, pronounced as ‘R-naught’) is also on a downward trend.

The Reproduction Number or R0 of Quezon City is at 0.67. This is lower compared to last week, which is 0.79. This is also lower compared to the number in the National Capital Region [NCR], which is at 0.71, and that of the entire country at 0.80),” the post read.

The R0 shows the severity of infection from Covid-19. An R0 that is lower than 1 reflects that each confirmed Covid-19 case has lower chances of infecting or causing a new infection.

While the testing capacity of Quezon City is now at about 4,000, the positivity rate is at 10 percent, one point lower than last week.

The positivity rate reflects the number of individuals who get a positive result from the Covid-19 test.
