MANILA – The Department of Education (DepEd) will hire learner support aides (LSAs) to assist teachers in the implementation of the distance learning system for the incoming school year, an education official said Monday.

“They are qualified individuals who help teachers in providing learning opportunities using various learning delivery modalities that promote achievement and progression of learners,” DepEd Undersecretary for Planning Jesus Mateo said in a virtual press briefing.

Apart from assisting teachers in lesson preparation, Mateo said LSAs will guide learners and households in the use of their chosen learning modalities and monitor the progress and achievement of learners.

“The salary of LSAs will be under the minimum daily wage rates set by the National Wages Productivity Commission per region.

This means that compensation from LSAs will be from PHP6,000 to PHP11,000 depending on their location,” Mateo said.

He said guidelines for the hiring LSAs are still being finalized.

However, he said passers of Licensure Exam for Teachers and private school teachers who became displaced, unemployed or underemployed due to the coronavirus pandemic may apply.

Mateo said provisional teachers whose contracts were not renewed may apply as LSAs.
