Video of woman confronting people about masks at Calgary fabric store makes rounds online

An unmasked woman was caught in a video telling another person at a Calgary fabric store that she is “sick and tired of your sickened rules,” as she ranted about face masks which most people have been using to protect themselves from getting coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

In the viral video of the incident, which reportedly happened at the Frabricland on Sunday, the person that the unmasked woman was talking to told her that they also did not want to wear a mask but they needed to.

The woman, however, told them that they are “a sheep just like the rest of them,” pointing her finger to the other individuals around them, and told them to “educate” themselves.

She then turned her attention and went too close to the person who was recording the confrontation.

“You’re really close to me,” the person said.

“Are you afraid? You should run away but you have your super mask on,” the woman said.

The person told her that they just want to protect her, but the woman said she did not want to be protected by them.

As the argument continues, another woman approached the unmasked customer, asking her to leave the store.

Before leaving, the woman even demanded an apology to the people in the shop if the COVID-19 pandemic is “proven to be a hoax.”

Another customer can be heard in the video telling the woman, “Wait ’til someone you know is sick.”

“Nobody is sick, sweetheart. Educate yourself. Go online and read and learn,” the woman insisted, as she walked away after being repeatedly told to leave.

The city of Calgary has been requiring its people to wear face masks or face coverings in indoor public premises and public vehicles since August 1.

In a news release on Monday, September 14, the city said there has been an increase in the number of people who uses face coverings in public premises and public vehicles since the temporary face coverings bylaw was implemented.

Citing a Citizen Perspectives COVID-19 snapshot survey, it noted that 89 percent of the 500 respondents said they always wear face coverings in public and confined spaces. The city also noted that, according to the poll, 88 percent of Calgarians support the temporary face coverings bylaw.
