MANILA – Lorraine Pingol was about to enjoy her day-off on Aug. 18 following her tough schedule at Medicard.

But after seeing a homeless lady struggling to give birth, Pingol knew it was her duty’s call.

Even with her backpack on, the nurse quickly facilitated the birth of Jeca Mae Lausa while on the streets.

If not for Pingol, Lausa, and her newborn baby girl would have been in big danger.

With that, Bounty Agro Ventures Inc. (BAVI) honored Pingol for heroic deed.

On Saturday, BAVI, through its president Ronald Mascarinas, gave the 29-year-old healthcare worker the “Manok ng Bayan Award”.

Pingol received cash and a one-year supply of Chooks-To-Go products for her commendable effort.

It was brand ambassador Kobe Paras who connected Pingol to BAVI.

“I was browsing the internet when I saw what happened on Facebook. It inspired me since it was Lorraine’s day-off, her vocation did not stop,” said the current college basketball star.

Meanwhile, Pingol could not believe that she was given the award since she does not consider herself as a coronavirus disease (Covid-19) front-liner.

“I’m a nurse but I’m a company nurse so I’m really not exposed to Covid. Hindi ako makapaniwala na tinatawag ninyo akong bayani pero thank you! Nakakataba ng puso ang lahat ng nga papuri (I cannot believe that you are calling me a hero but thank you! All the praises flatter me),” she said.

“For me I just did what I had to do as a nurse.”

She added that the other healthcare workers, especially those who are attending to Covid-19 patients, should also be given the Manok ng Bayan Award.

May marami pang tao na deserving na tawaging bayani (There are many people who deserve to be called heroes) like our policemen and soldiers and those medical frontliners who are working in the hospital attending to Covid patients,” she humbly said.

Pingol became the fourth person to be given the said award after professional basketball players Gabe Norwood and Kiefer Ravena and Capt. Tristan Simeon.
