A year has passed since Bela Padilla bid goodbye to her role as Juris in “Sino Ang Maysala?: Mea Culpa” but her performance surely left marks not only to its viewers, as she and the teleserye got nominated in an international award-giving body.

Bela got nominated in the best actress category of the 15th Seoul International Drama Awards (SDA), along with Imelda Staunton from Britain, Shu-qin Ke from Taiwan, Zuzana Stivinova from Czech Republic, and three from South Korea: Si-Eun Park, Hyo-Jin Kong, and Ji-Eun Kim.

Imelda played as Professor Dolores Umbridge in the film, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. While Hyo-Jin is an award-winning actress, known for romantic comedies after iconic portrayals of the genre.

This is why Bela, who tweeted her joy about the good news wrote, “Thank you!!! To be nominated with Ms. Hyo Jin and professor Umbridge herself!!!!! is honestly the most kilig part for me.”

The crime drama she starred in was also nominated in the serial drama category, competing against entries from Brazil, China, Colombia, Taiwan, and Turkey. Out of 212 entries from 41 countries around the globe, this ABS-CBN teleserye is the only entry from the Philippines.

Entries were announced by the SDA organizers on Thursday, August 6.

“Sino Ang Maysala?: Mea Culpa” or just “Mea Culpa” internationally, ran on local television from April to August in 2019. The story is about a group of six lawyers who accidentally ran over a woman who stole an infant from a hospital. Believing that the woman is the mother, they buried her body while Juris, Bela’s character took care of the baby as her own. Time passes when the real mother, Fina, played by Jodi Sta. Maria goes on a quest to find her missing child.

An Indonesian adaptation of the drama entitled “Bukan Salah Cinta” aired this year.

SDA will run from September 8 to 13.
