NCR has most number of displaced workers: DOLE

MANILA – The National Capital Region (NCR) recorded the highest number of displaced workers at almost 49,000 as more than 4,000 establishments implemented closures and reduced workforce nationwide due to the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic.
Based on the partial figures of job displacement report by Regional Offices of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) released on Tuesday, Metro Manila has a total of 48,801 affected employees from 1,443 establishments.
It is followed by Calabarzon at 25,950 workers from 874 establishments; Central Luzon with 12,651 workers (677 establishments); Central Visayas with 5,643 workers (347 establishments); Cordillera Administrative Region with 5,166 workers (73 establishments); Davao Region with 3,709 workers (195 establishments); Northern Mindanao with 2,699 workers (188 establishments); and Ilocos Region with 1,648 workers (78 establishments).
Likewise, Western Visayas logged 1,644 affected workers (174 establishments); Cagayan Valley with 1,060 workers (90 establishments), Eastern Visayas with 1,030 workers (41 establishments); Soccsksargen with 802 workers (30 establishments); Caraga Region with 686 workers (58 establishments); Bicol Region with 670 workers (61 establishments), Mimaropa, 224 workers (23 establishments) and Zamboanga Peninsula with 21 workers (two establishments).
On the other hand, a total of 112,414 workers were displaced nationwide from January to July 5, according to the report.
Some 91 percent or 3,946 of the total number of establishments have adopted reduced workforce while the remaining 9 percent or 408 establishments reported permanent closure.
The sectors that have the most number of displaced employees were under administrative and support service (27 percent share or 30,831) and manufacturing (13 percent or 14,519).
It added that a total of 105,368 establishments covering 2,888,065 workers are implementing Flexible Work Arrangements (FWAs) and Temporary Closure (TC).
A total of 24,712 establishments with 1,039,194 workers implemented FWAs while 82,496 establishments involving 1,972,770 employees resorted to TC.
The report is sourced from the notices of shutdown and retrenchment submitted by employers to the DOLE regional offices.
