Samuel De Champlain Bridge Celebrates Its First Anniversary
The Government of Canada is pleased to celebrate the first anniversary of the Samuel De Champlain Bridge. This elegant and modern piece of infrastructure is designed to meet the various mobility needs of residents of the greater Montreal area and facilitates the transportation of essential goods worth billions of dollars annually.
Thanks to its innovative design and high-quality construction, the Samuel De Champlain Bridge has become one of the greatest successes among key infrastructure projects in Quebec and all of Canada.
In 2018, it won the prestigious Envision Platinum Award for meeting the highest standards in sustainable development. The bridge has been awarded other prizes and distinctions since then, including the following:
- Number 1 in Roads and Bridges magazine’s Top 10 Bridge awards, 2018
- “Prix Infrastructures” award of the Assocation québécoise des transports, 2019
- Governmental Leadership Award of the Canadian Society for Civil Engineering, 2019
- Canadian Institute of Steel Construction Award of Excellence, “Coup de cœur du jury” (jury’s pick) category – Bridges (Quebec Region), 2019
- Excellence in Structural Engineering Award of the National Council of Structural Engineers Association, 2019
