MANILA – The number of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases among Filipinos overseas has reached 607 as of April 9, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) reported Thursday.

There are now 226 cases in the Asia Pacific region, 205 in Europe, 114 in the Americas and 62 in the Middle East/Africa, which remained the same since Wednesday.

The increase in the new cases on Thursday was lower than the 25 new cases recorded on April 8.

“While it is still early to claim success, reports today record yet another reduction in the number of confirmed Covid-19 cases among our kababayans abroad at 13 cases from the Americas, Asia, and the Pacific, and Europe,” DFA Assistant Secretary Eduardo Meñez said in a statement.

Meanwhile, seven have newly recovered while four have succumbed to the disease, bringing the total number of recovered at 171 and death toll at 72.

“This Maundy Thursday, the DFA shares everyone’s hope and prayers for safety, protection, and healing as we all battle against Covid-19. Combining the power of prayer and action, we commit to continuing our efforts to attend to the needs of our land-based OFWs as well as our seafarers affected by the Covid-19 pandemic around the world,” Meñez said.
