Mall hostage taker has security guard license: PNP

MANILA – A former security guard who held hostage at least 70 employees of V-mall inside the Greenhills Shopping Center in San Juan City on Monday has a license to work as security guard, the Philippine National Police Supervisory Office on Security and Investigation Agencies (PNP-SOSIA) said on Tuesday.
PNP SOSIA chief, Brig. Gen. Michael John Dubria made this clarification after the San Juan City Police Office got information that Alchie Paray has no license to work as security guard.
“I saw the name. He is in possession of license or security profession. His records, he has a record with our office but talking about investigation or criminal charges, local police po yun (that’s local police jurisdiction),” Dubria said in a press briefing.
Dubria, however, said the gun that Paray used in hostage-taking has no serial number.
He said he ordered his personnel to check the papers and documents of Paray’s former security agency, Sascor Armor Security Corp.
“We are ordering to check Sascor and have an investigating team to their post in Greenhills,” Dubria said.
He clarified that the security agency has a license to operate.
Dubria said investigation will focus on whether clearances have been issued on the neuro psychiatric exam of the Sascor guards to prevent future crisis.

The hostage standoff ended after nine hours when Paray agreed to release his hostages and while talking to the media without handcuffs, a man tackled him from behind that led to his arrest.
He is now under the custody of San Juan City Police.
Paray, who was relieved by Sascor after going on an absence without leave (AWOL), claimed that corruption and unfair treatment by his superiors prompted him to resort to hostage-taking.
