Probers coordinate with NBP over BuCor exec’s slay
MANILA — The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) on Friday said it is now coordinating with the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) regarding its investigation on the killing of suspended Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) legal division chief, Fredric Anthony Santos.
NCRPO chief, Maj. Gen. Debold Sinas, said they have obtained CCTV footages of the NBP compound on the day of Santos’ killing.
“The said footages showed Attorney Santos leaving the minimum-security compound of the NBP, proceeding to the (area where he was shot dead). Nakuha din doon sa CCTV footage ‘yung one motorcycle na (nag-overtake) sa sasakyan niya (We also got a CCTV footage of the motorcycle that overtook his vehicle),” Sinas told in a press briefing in Quezon City.
Sinas also said Santos’ case folders are being looked into by the police.
Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra earlier directed the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to investigate, do a case build-up and file charges against the people behind the killing.
Santos was shot dead by unidentified gunmen while he was about to pick up his child in front of the Southernside Montessori School in Katihan Street, Barangay Poblacion in Muntinlupa City on February 19.
Santos was among prison officials who have been meted with six months suspension without pay by the Office of the Ombudsman over their involvement in the irregularities in the implementation of the expanded Good Conduct Time Allowance (GCTA) law.
He was also one of the resource persons at a Senate inquiry on the controversies surrounding the law’s implementation.
