Miss Universe Philippines (MUP) Organization’s National Director Shamcey Supsup said that rivalry does not exist between the new team and the Aranetas’ Binibining Pilipinas Charities, Inc. (BPCI).

The Miss Universe 2011 3rd runner-up clarified this in the first press conference of the organization on Wednesday, January 29.

Shamcey said that she and all binibinis will always be grateful to the Aranetas as a product of Binibini, and she believes that “we can still support each other, even if we have separate pageants.”

“I don’t think it should be a rivalry kasi (because) what’s the point of having these pageants? We wanna empower, we don’t want to look down on others or pull others down,” she further said.

The beauty queen also added that this is not the direction that their organizations are looking at and going to.

At the same time, Shamcey acknowledged that Jorge and Stella Araneta are her wedding godparents, asserting their close relationship.

“So I don’t think this will have… magkakaroon ng lamat ‘yung (a strain in our) relationship,” she added.

Shamcey hopes for support to be the core of pageantry. She explained that each pageant has a different direction and a different vision.

It was in early December when the MUP announced through a statement in social media its departure from BPCI after more than 50 years. While grateful, the organization said that it is “fitting that the path to the future be led with vigor and a vision aligned with the transformative purpose of Miss Universe.”

“The Miss Universe Organization is thrilled to announce its partnership with Miss Universe Philippines Organization – a fresh team that will lead the country towards its continued quest to share the beauty and grace of the Filipina to the rest of the world,” the statement read, posted on Monday, December 9.

Aside from the statement revealing Shamcey as the National Director. Other officials unveiled were Albert Andrada as the Design Council Head, Jonas Gaffud as the Creative Director, Lia Ramos as Head of Women Empowerment Committee and Charity, Atty. Nad Bronce as Head of Legal Affairs, and Mario Garcia as Business Development/ Marketing Head.
