Guevarra welcomes Robredo as co-chair of anti-drug body

MANILA — The Department of Justice (DOJ) on Tuesday welcomed the appointment of Vice President Ma. Leonor G. Robredo as among those who will lead the government’s anti-illegal drugs drive.

In a memorandum dated October 31 and released on Tuesday, President Rodrigo Duterte designated Robredo as co-chairperson of the Inter-Agency Committee on Anti-Illegal Drugs (ICAD) until June 30, 2022.

The ICAD was formed under Executive Order 15 in March 2017 and is chaired by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency.

Among its functions is to ensure the effective conduct of anti-illegal drug operations and arrest of high-value drug personalities down to the street level peddlers and users.

It also spearheads and coordinates the implementation of the five-year National Anti-Drug Plan of Action, ensures the comprehensive implementation of the Barangay Drug-Clearing Program as well as ensures the conduct of advocacy campaign initiatives.
