NEW YORK — Christian Cowan always brings playful, colorful looks to the runway and his spring 2020 collection was no exception.

There were electric reds, fluorescent pinks, voluptuous feathers, metallics and sequins, but there were also softer tones, inspired by the Spanish coastal city where he spent time by the beach growing up.

“My family’s from Galicia in Spain, a village called Moana,” he said.

“There (were) strong powerful women who run their businesses and their homes with what seems like ease, and I just wanted to kind of do a collection inspired by them.”

There were nods to those women with lace and ruffles. Cowan’s grandmother used to make lace. To evoke a coastal feel, he used pastel tie-dies and a towel wrap.

The wrap, worn by model Karolina Kurkova, shimmered with crystal stripes and fringe.

Several of Cowan’s staples made their way back onto the runway Tuesday, such as crystal mesh draped over a dress and his chrome watch band heels. His sequin dipped hoodie-dress also made a reappearance for the season, but this time the fabric was tie-dyed at the top.

Recording artist and “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” cast member Erika Jane wore the same design, sitting front row, but hers was in a vibrant pink.

“Christian Cowan has always got pop art, fun, colour. This is where you can have fun in fashion and not be so serious,” Jayne said.

Also sitting front row was Meghan Trainor, who Cowan dressed for the LA Pride Festival.

“It was the first time ever that I wore such a revealing outfit and it made me realize how beautiful I actually was,” Trainer said.

“So, he gave me a lot of confidence and because of him, I love my body more.”

Patrick Starrr, the YouTube personality and makeup artist, was also on hand.

“We celebrate a message of inclusiveness, diversity. Fashion is catching up. We’re here. We have Christian Cowan and look at the diversity around the room,” he said, noting he had a front row seat. “I’m a bald, gay, plus-sized Filipino man and I’ve happened to make it.”
