Petron-Letran has finally acquired their first win for the 2019 Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Developmental League (D-League) season as they defeat AMA Online Education 108-91 at Paco Arena in Manila last Tuesday, March 5.

Larry Muyang, known for being the National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA) Season 94 Rookie of the Year, successfully fulfilled his part as a big man by providing a total of 21 points for Letran – 15 of those points scored in the fourth quarter alone. He was aided by Christian Fajarito at 15 points and Jeo Ambohot who had a double-double of 14 points and 12 rebounds.

Jerrick Balanza redeemed himself as well from only contributing six points from last game, tripling his output this time around at 18 points.

For the opposing side, it was Alvin Pasaol who tried to fight hard at the post with eight points, six rebounds, and six assists, but unfortunately, he was only shooting 3-of-10 from the field. First draft pick Munzon was the highest pointer once again for his team at 38 points, but it was not enough to get AMA the win.

Coach Bonnie Tan attests the win to his predecessor, Jeff Napa, also adding that Larry “was given confidence because his partner Fajarito was here.” In his words, “We’re happy that we finally won. But, playing here in the PBA D-League, win or lose, we’re always winning because we’re gaining experience. I’m just happy that my players didn’t back down from the challenge today.” As for big man Balanza’s improved performance, Coach Bonnie remarked, “For a player, it’s hard to get back on his timing, but I advised him to focus on defense first and the offense will follow. He got 18 points this game, but he also stopped the two top scorers from AMA. That is where it starts, he got it.”

This win redeems Petron-Letran from their last loss, now leaving them standing 1-1 with their win-loss record, while AMA drops to 1-2.
