AFP appeals for public understanding on anti-terror measures
MANILA — An official of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) is urging the public to cooperate in the implementation of security measures in the metropolis, including the prohibition of some bottled liquid items in metro rail stations.
AFP spokesperson Brig. Gen. Edgard Arevalo on Sunday said that while measures such as the prohibition of backpacks, knapsacks, large boxes and bags in churches may be an inconvenience, a “little sacrifice (is) for the good) of the many”.
“All of these pre-emptive, pro-active measures, (and we are hoping that the public will understand) that we have to do this,” Arevalo said.
Arevalo said instead of complaining about the measures, everyone’s “whole-hearted cooperation” is needed to quell acts of terrorism.
The public is prohibited from taking with them inside MRT and LRT stations some bottled liquid items following the January 27 twin bombings of the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Cathedral in Jolo, Sulu which killed 23 persons and wounded 95 others.
