Filipino representatives Mighty Sports ended the elimination round of the Dubai International Basketball Tournament on a high note after claiming victory over Al Wahda Syria, 85-81, last Tuesday, February 5.

Once again, Justin Brownlee led the way for his team with 27 points, while Roosevelt Adams and Randolph Morris chipped 21 and 19 points respectively. On the other hand, Syria’s Jordan Adams, who is a former National Basketball Association (NBA) player, contributed a total of 22 points for his team, while Bilal Abdullah performed with 16 points coming off the bench.

Unfortunately for Brownlee, pain started to strike his knee in the middle of the game that led to dizziness, Mighty Sports head coach Charles Tiu reporting, “Halftime, he was already feeling a lot of pain, and then he landed twice. At one point, the second time, he was already feeling dizzy. It’s a good thing now, he seems to be okay.” It’s been reported that Brownlee still went to the hospital after the game for a checkup. Tiu explained, “Jason is a God-send. He’s my stabilizer. I trust him and can give him the reins of the team any time. He’s so easy to coach and he is just as important as any member of this team.”

Coach Charles called the Mighty Sports’ fourth victory “a character-building win,” stating, “I have a lot of faith in this team. I told them at the start of the tournament that we haven’t faced any adversity and today we finally did so I’m happy that we were able to pull this out. Again, we just keep things simple and play to our players’ strengths. We are limited in what we can do due to lack of preparation but we won’t make excuses.”

Team Philippines will be resting on Wednesday before beginning the Quarterfinals knockout on Thursday, February 7.
