Six-foot-eight Poy Erram impressed his new team, the NLEX Road Warriors, once again after an exceptional performance against the Meralco Bolts last Saturday, February 2 as the Yeng Guiao-led team won 87-83 for their second win in the 2019 Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Philippine Cup.

The 29-year-old has averaged 16.6 points, 7.4 rebounds, 4.0 blocks, and 3.2 assists per game. For his most previous performance, he delivered 12 points, eight rebounds, seven assists, and five blocks.

Because of his performance, Erram emerges as the 2019 Cignal-PBA Press Corps Player of the Week for the period of January 28-February 3. He beat out Phoenix Pulse Fuelmaster’s Calvin Abueva, Barangay Ginebra’s Greg Slaughter, and Rain or Shine’s James Yap for the title.

NLEX Head Coach Yeng Guiao stated that he’s “not surprised” with Erram’s previous performances because “that’s his role for the team,” stating, “That’s really the role Poy Erram plays for us, defensively.” He share, “He’s not sweeping the floor, but he’s sweeping away enemy shots, referencing Erram’s new nickname as “The Sweeper.” Guiao added, “We know that he can score. He’s actually top scoring for us with his average. But not too many notice he’s averaging three to five blocks a game.”

When talking about his most recent victory, a teary-eyed Erram shares, “I just want to win. I just want to prove we belong here.”

With their back-to-back victories, Guiao also tells the media, “We had to go through some ups and downs during the game and I look at it as a positive sign, winning in different ways.”

The next time the NLEX Road Warriors will see action and try to continue their winning streak is on February 8 at the Mall of Asia Arena as they face the Phoenix Fuelmasters.
