The Petron Blaze Spikers have won the trophy as Philippine Super Liga (PSL) All-Filipino Conference champions for the second year in a row as they silenced rivals F2 Logistics in a three-set game last Thursday, December 20 at The Arena in San Juan for the best-of-three championship series.

Aiza Maizo-Pontillas and Bernadeth Pons led the Blaze Spikers with 13 and 11 points respectively. On the other hand, Most Valuable Player (MVP) was awarded to Rhea Dimaculangan, who registered 31 out of her team’s 53 excellent sets for Game Three. Skipper Francis Molina had an applause-worthy performance as well with nine points and 22 digs. On the other hand, F2 Logistics team captain Cha Cruz-Behag and Ara Galang tried to fire back, but only had 10 markers each for their team.

Petron head coach Shaq Delos Santos shared that his team “has been through a lot,” and that he didn’t think that they’d gain the three-set sweep because it wasn’t an easy feat in the conference. He stated in Filipino, “Of course what we worked hard for ended up with good results,” adding, “It makes me proud because they’re not hard to talk to. Whatever the coach staff wants, that’s also what [the team] wants.”

Petron Spiker Pons also shared in Filipino, “What we went through was something else just to win this game,” commending F2 for not making it easy for them and “really fighting,” but recalled, “Our effort was also there for every point, we worked hard for it because we knew that they’ll get it if we don’t work hard.” When asked about her reaction in winning the title, Pons responded, “It’s super special because [F2] beat us during the invitational. This was our chance to redeem ourselves and to defend the crown.”

Petron almost had a tournament sweep until they lost to F2 Logistics during Game 2 of the finals series. This is the team’s fourth title overall.
