Both University of the Philippines (UP) and Adamson University (AdU) are in anticipation of the results of the upcoming second match of the semifinals between the two teams for the 81st season of the University Athletics Association of the Philippines (UAAP), but the latter school has just announced class suspension to go full-on support for the do-or-die game on Wednesday, November 28.

On the San Marcelino-based squad’s Twitter, the University President Fr. Marcelo V. Manimtim announced, “Classes in the SHS and College level and office work will be suspended on Wednesday, Nov 28 at 12 nn onwards so that everyone can watch the AdU vs UP game live at the Araneta Coliseum. Selling of tickets to employees/ faculty members is through the office heads who will submit the list to the OAR. We are appealing to the entire AdU Community to support our team. Please wear navy blue Adamson U shirts.”

The No. 2 seed Falcons, led by Coach Franz Pumaren, are trying to redeem themselves from Game 1 of the semi-finals where they lost to the Fighting Maroons at 73-71 at the Mall of Asia Arena last weekend. Reports show that they were also overshadowed in the crowd, where most of the supporters were wearing Maroon as compared to Blue-and-White.

Coach Franz admitted that he still sees a light at the end of the tunnel for the upcoming game, reminiscing on their last loss in a positive way, saying, “we should have gotten the victory in spite of us playing bad. That’s a very good sign, we played bad, down the whole game but when we started playing the right system, right brand of game, we were able to get back and even take the lead.”

For both Adamson and UP, it has been decades since the two schools had a finals appearance in the UAAP. The last time the fighting maroons were in the championship was in 1986, led by Benjie Paras and Ronnie Magsanoc. Marlou Aquino and Kenneth Duremdes led Team Adamson into their last big game in 1992. Most recently, Duremdes, who had a brief stint as head coach of the Soaring Falcons in Season 77 shared that he’s “hoping to see Adamson again in the Finals.”
