The audience has expected the prominent filmmaker Erik Matti to direct the new movie of Mars Ravelo’s iconic superheroine ‘Darna.’ The latter, however, seems to disappoint the moviegoers’ expectation with this news.

Kane Errol Choa, head of the ABS-CBN Corporate Communications, on Thursday, October 4, announced that Erik is resigning from the much-awaited Star Cinema film.

Why did Erik decide to part ways in the filming of ‘Darna?’ Kane said among the reasons was because of the “creative differences” and to allow the director to “work on his other projects” under his own production company, Reality Entertainment.

Despite Erik’s exit, ABS-CBN and Star Cinema “are fully committed to bringing the iconic character to the big screen for today’s generation of moviegoers to witness the story of the well-loved Pinoy comic superhero.”

As for Erik’s replacement, Kane has not yet named anyone as of writing, but said that the new director will be announced soon.

It was way back in 2014 when the upcoming movie adaptation of ‘Darna’ was announced, with Kapamilya actress Angel Locsin being the superheroine once again.

The viewers probably won’t forget how Angel excellently portrayed the ‘Darna’ role in 2005 that’s why many of them were hyped up after knowing that the actress will be flying again to save the world from the baddies.

But due to a spine injury, Angel had to pass Darna’s mythical stone to another lucky lady.

It was then announced in 2017 that Liza Soberano, one of the sought-after actresses in today’s generation, will be the one who will wear Darna’s red battle gear. Angel earlier revealed that Liza was her “first choice” to succeed the role.
