Twelve-year-old junior wushu fighter Rastafari Daraliay got into a fatal accident by falling off the top of a bunk bed at the athlete’s headquarters at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex in Malate, Manila last Saturday morning, September 29.

Reports from The Wushu Federation of the Philippines (WFP) said that at around 3 am, Daraliay fell from his bed, but he went back to sleep. His roommate sixteen-year-old Johnsenth Gajo reported that a few hours later, he found Daraliay on the floor with his mouth frothing. Darialay was immediately brought to the hospital, where he was declared dead upon arrival.

Currently, Daraliay’s body remains at Santuario de San Vicente de Paul in Tandang Sora, Quezon City.

Upon hearing about the incident, Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Chairman William “Butch” Ramirez instructed further investigation from the members of the WFP. R

amirez shared, “When I learned about the incident, I instructed the PSC Medical Doctor, Wushu officials, and PSC Operations Manager to submit immediate reports,” further elaborating that they are giving the parents of Daraliay attention and aid as needed.

In addition, he told ABS-CBN News, “This is a very sad story of a young athlete who had a great dream for himself and his country.” Ramirez will further address the issue and give a more detailed report of what happened to the public at a press conference on Monday. According to WFP Secretary-General Julian Camacho, “We still have to find out what really happened.”
