MANILA — The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Saturday advised the Filipino community in Hong Kong to take precautions in view of the expected onslaught of Typhoon “Ompong” (international name “Mangkhut”) on Sunday.

The Philippine Consulate General in Hong Kong already issued an advisory to the 227,000 Filipinos in the territory to stay indoors and defer any planned travels or outdoor activities.

Everyone was instructed to monitor weather bulletins and heed instructions given by local authorities.

Consul General Antonio Morales, for his part, said in the event of T8 or T10 being hoisted, the Consulate will be closed, and all passport appointments and other transactions scheduled on Monday will be accommodated anytime during the Consulate’s business hours.

Other activities and events scheduled that day will also be cancelled and rescheduled should the alert level be raised.

The Consulate assured it will monitor the typhoon situation and will be coordinating with Hong Kong authorities as necessary, and stands ready to provide assistance if needed.

In case of emergency, Filipinos in Hong Kong were advised to call 999 or the Consulate Hotline at +852.9155.4023.
