MANILA — Honorio Banario’s quest for a world title shot bumped into a huge wall on Saturday night when Amir Khan scored a huge submission win at One: Beyond the Horizon at the Baoshan Arena in Shanghai.

Khan quickly brought the fight to the ground and found an opening to perform a rear naked choke on Banario.

Banario could not hang on and was forced to concede with only 26 seconds left in Round 1.

He failed to score a more convincing victory that could have overshadowed a far-from-impressive win by fellow Team Lakay stalwart Edward Kelly.

Kelly defeated Christian Lee in the match directly preceding the Banario-Khan fight, but it was not without drama, as Kelly only got the win by disqualification.

Lee performed an illegal suplex on Kelly head first, midway into the first round of their match. Kelly, who got terribly hurt, told Olivier Coste that he could not continue, forcing the referee to slap Lee with the disqualification.

In the headliner, Xiong Jing Nan impressed her fellow Chinese people as she knocked out Samara Santos to retain her One women’s straw weight belt.

A huge right hand from Xiong sent Santos down the canvass for good, prompting the referee to call it a night at the 1:22 mark of Round 3.
