Duterte: Davao has many rape cases due to its beautiful women

President Rodrigo Duterte jestingly said the reason why his hometown Davao City recorded the most number of rape cases is that it has a lot of beautiful women.

“Ingon sila nga daghang rape ang Davao. Basta daghang gwapa, daghang rape gyud na. Kinsa ba’y unang musugot sa una? Sugot ng babaye? Asa. ‘Ayaw lagi. ‘Di lagi. Ahhh (They said that Davao had many rape cases. For as long as there are many beautiful women, there are plenty of rape cases as well. Who agrees to do it on the first request anyway? Will the woman allow it? No. ‘Don’t, no, ahhh’),'” Duterte said in jest in a speech during the 49th charter day celebration of Mandaue City on Thursday, August 30.

“Wa ma’y unang nisugot anang kuan. Kana, rape na. Maski gani mag-kuan lang sa sine, mag sige pa’g ana’g kamot. ‘Ayaw lagi, ayaw.’ Ka daghang gwapa. Ah makatabi ka ana’g pangag, kinsa ma’y ganahan (Nobody agrees to do it on the first try. That is rape. Even when they’re inside the cinema, she will push him away. ‘No, don’t.’ There are so many beautiful women. But if you happen to sit beside someone toothless, would you still want to do that)?” he added.

In a recent report by the Philippine National Police (PNP), Davao City logged the highest number of rapes cases, which is at 42, in the second quarter of 2018. It was followed by Quezon City with 41 cases, Manila with 32, Cagayan de Oro with 24, and Zamboanga City with 21.

The President had been criticized by several government officials, women’s rights groups, and the public for his actions and remarks against women.

In June, Duterte kissed a married Filipina on the lips in public during his official visit South Korea. Last February, the Chief Executive also threatened to shoot female communists in their vagina.

In 2017, Duterte also said he did not like kids being raped but if someone messes with a “Miss Universe” beauty, he would even congratulate the criminal for raping such individual knowing that they are going to face consequences.
