Kris Aquino delivers relief goods to Marikina flood victims
Seeing photos and videos of houses swamped by murky floodwaters and calamity victims desperately crying for help, Kris Aquino could not bear to turn a blind eye on to what’s really happening around her.
Even though Kris herself is not in good shape, the “Queen of All Media” chose to ignore it just so she could extend her hands to her fellow Filipinos who were affected by the recent flooding.
Kris found a way to do her mission when she even asked their city mayor, who was also her ex-boyfriend, if there was anyone still in need of help; but Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista told her that there’s no need anymore.
Thinking that maybe there are still victims who have not received much assistance, Kris phoned her friend, Quezon City 3rd District Representative Jorge “Bolet” Banal.
Kris said Jorge told her, “Kris, si Cong Miro (Quimbo) ng Marikina ang nagulpi ang area- kapitbahay natin (Cong Miro Quimbo of Marikina’s area was badly hit – our neighbor).”
After learning this, Kris immediately acted and asked her staff to buy relief goods for the flood victims in the H. Bautista Elementary School.
“Inubos ni Alvin & Bincai ang (Alvin and Bincai finished off the supplies of) Ariel, Pantene, Safeguard, Cheez Whiz, and Lucky Me from both Pure Gold & SM Hypermart,” the actress said in an Instagram post on Tuesday, August 14.
She continued, “Sinabi kong try namin magdala ng mainit na hapunan- malayo ang branches ko ng Chowking so dun sa malapit na branch ako nakapag bulk order. May ready stock kami sa house na Unipak & Healthy Family (I said we should try to bring warm dinner — my Chowking branches are far so we went to the nearest branch and made bulk orders. We also have at home a ready stock of Unipak & Healthy Family).”
With her current situation, Kris said she was told to deliver her donations, but she insisted to personally hand it out.
Remembering her mom’s teachings, Kris stressed, “Sa gitna ng sakuna, mahalaga ang personal na effort (In the middle of crisis, personal effort is a must).”
“Worth it po kasi naparamdam ko sa kanila- hindi kailangang naka posisyon [sa gobyerno] para magbigay ng tulong at maki-simpatya sa mga kapwa Pilipino (because I was able to make them feel that a person does not need to have a position in the government to be able to help and sympathize with our fellow Filipinos). It was my honor to give back to my country,” she added.
Kris went on saying that she would continue to share with the world the blessings she and her family are receiving “with no political agenda.”
The Crazy Rich Asians‘ Princess Intan, in a separate post, shared that she could not ignore what the victims have been going through because she herself also experienced what was it like to rebuild from scratch.
“This was just a girl who has been given the privilege to resurrect from the ashes doing her share to uplift others — you see she knows what it’s like to feel like there was no tomorrow- yet she found the strength & she battled on,” she said.
Kris also acknowledged that some would criticize her for posting on social media her good deeds, but she shared it to her more than three million followers on Instagram in hopes that many would be encouraged to also share their blessings.
“Ang sarap ng feeling makakita ng mga ngiti at makarinig ng (It feels so good to see those smiles and hear the word) THANK YOU,” Kris wrote.
She then ended her post with, “Tonight was for you, mom. Your baby did what she knows in her heart would make you smile. After all, I’ll always try to be the best version of me because I want to be more like you.”
