Why Rihanna got a criminal sense of deja vu at the Met Gala

NEW YORK — When Rihanna attended last week’s glitzy Met Gala, she was actually returning to the scene of the crime.

The Grammy-winning singer had earlier shot a spinoff of the “Oceans” film franchise that centres on a heist at the annual Met Gala.

The memory was particularly amusing for Rihanna, who attended the real gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art on Friday dripping in pearls and crystals in a Maison Margiela by John Galliano mini-dress, ornate robe and beaded papal headgear.

“I’ve been to the Met Gala so many times, so every time we talk about the Met Gala it was quite a bit of humour for me. But it was also really nice to shoot a scene in the actual Met museum. So you’ll see that this summer,” Rihanna said Thursday.

“Ocean’s 8,” starring Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Helena Bonham Carter, Sarah Paulson and Mindy Kaling, comes out June 8.

She may have been wearing expensive clothes at the gala, but the Barbados-born Rihanna is these days celebrating the launch of her new lingerie line, Savage X Fenty.

“Savage was such a natural outlet for me because I enjoy lingerie. I’m a woman. I like to have fun. And coming from my culture we love to express our freedom and embrace our bodies, and there’s such a thing about that that’s still in me,” she said.

The line, which takes its name from Rihanna’s last name Fenty and debuts Friday, is available with an extensive range of sizes from XS to 3XL, and bras from 32A up to 44D. The lingerie is also affordable, which is important to her.

“When it when you see a bra that’s $300, it kind of hurts you because, as much as you love it, you’re thinking if that’s just the bra then I can’t get the panty. Then you have to choose. It deters you from buying it because you want to have both. You want to have both,” she said.

“Women really come in so many different shapes sizes that it’s such a beautiful thing. You want everyone to feel like they have something for them,” Rihanna said.
