Michelle Madrigal, the actress who has lived in the public eye for years, revealed that she has Hashimoto’s disease.

“So I have recently been diagnosed with Hashimoto’s disease, along with other millions of young and older women who suffer from it,” Michelle announced in an Instagram post yesterday, May 11.

The actress, a mother of one, explained her condition “as an autoimmune disorder that can cause hypothyroidism, or underactive thyroid.”

“It means that my immune system makes antibodies that attack the thyroid gland. The thyroid becomes damaged and can’t make enough thyroid hormones,” she said.

Michelle said she has developed goiter or enlarged thyroid and is aware that Thyroid hormones “control how our body uses energy, so they affect nearly every organ in your body.”

Despite her situation, the 30-year-old actress remains positive, saying that she is lucky that the doctors have not yet prescribed her with any medication as she would prepare to heal herself “in a holistic way.”

Michelle even considered changing her lifestyle, particularly her diet, for a better overall health. She said that she has been researching about AIP (Autoimmune Protocol) diet and paleo diet, which are both helpful in eliminating foods considered to be gut irritants.

“I will most likely start with it after our vacation. I started cutting sugar & gluten into my diet and it is amazing that I am not really craving sweets lately,” she said.

While saying that healing her gut is just the first step, the actress acknowledged that dealing with everyday stress and emotional flare-ups are also another thing.

“I really am on a huge ‘transition phase’ of my life this year. So here’s to healing naturally and being healthy from the inside out!” she said.

Her fans have sent her words of encouragement after she disclosed the news about her condition.

Instagram user @whyteworrell told the actress, “Hang in there, I switch to Raw Vegan (no over the counter pills or any meds of some sort). I grow my own food and I felt better. Please take care you beautiful.”

Another follower, @coreebu3heal_thy, advised Michelle that she can heal “in the most natural way” just by consuming healing foods. He even suggested reading the Thyroid Healing book written by Anthony William to know more about her disease and the foods she should and shouldn’t eat.

“Me alone has a thyroid problem. This book is life changing,” he said.

Meanwhile, @row_1467 said, “I’ve following you and watching your IG videos. You’re such an inspiration & really committed to being healthy. I wish you all d best & I’m sure you will rock it girl!!! Also, look into whole30 such a good detox diet! Good luck & God bless you & your family.”

Her other followers are also praying for her fast recovery.
