MANILA — A man who fled the country five years ago to escape prosecution for killing his own father has been repatriated to the Philippines to face justice.

In a press conference Monday, police authorities presented Nelson B. Antonio, a fugitive who is the subject of an Interpol Red Notice and a warrant of arrest without bail issued by Parañaque Regional Trial Court Branch 257 Judge Rolando How.

He is wanted for killing his father Antonio whom he shot six times at the family’s residence in 118 Concha Cruz Drive in BF Executive Homes, Paranaque City on Sept. 11, 2013 over a misunderstanding on inheritance matters.

Nelson fled to Singapore on Dec. 28, 2013 before the Interpol finally caught up with him.

A joint team led by PNP Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) head Police Dir. Roel Obusan with PNP Drug Enforcement Group (PDEG) Director Senior Supt. Ignatius Ferro, Police Attache to UAE Enrique Magalona and Supt. Rodolfo Gonzales returned to Manila from Abu Dhabi with the suspect on Sunday.

The family of the victim, meanwhile, thanked the PNP, Special Assistant to the President Bong Go and journalist Gus Abelgas for their efforts which led to the arrest of the suspect.

Albayalde underscored the successful cooperation between PNP and their counterparts abroad.

“What’s important here is ating coordination with the Interpol kaya nga yung Interpol natin, ‘yung close coordination with foreign counterparts (What is important is our coordination with Interpol and our foreign police counterparts,” Albayalde said.

He also assured that PNP and Interpol have similarly strong links to Asean countries such as Malaysia and Indonesia. (PNA)
