PRISAA Games: C. Visayas lifters, dance couple capture golds

TAGBILARAN CITY — Central Visayas (Region 7) collected 20 gold medals in weightlifting in the Private Schools Athletic Association Sports Foundation, Inc. (PRISAA) National Games here Tuesday.

Kid Perez won three golds in the youth boys 65-kg. category after lifting 65 kg. in snatch, and 87 kg. in clean and jerk for a total of 152 kg.

His brother, Edrian John, also got three golds in the youth boys 56-kg. category after submitting a total lift of 175 kg. (80 kg. in snatch, and 95 kg. in clean and jerk).

Lorete siblings Justin Luke and Franz Ivan likewise won in their respective categories. Justin Luke registered 67 kg. in snatch, and 82 kg. in clean and jerk for a total of 149 kg. in the youth boys 50-kg. category, while Franz Ivan posted a total lift of 123 kg. (50 kg. in snatch, and 73 kg. in clean and jerk) in the youth boys 46-kg. category.

RJ Polan delivered three golds (40 kg. in snatch, and 50 kg. in clean and jerk, for a total of 90 kg.) in the youth girls 48-kg. category while Ma. Paula Lanit added three more in the youth girls 44-kg. category where she registered 35 kg. in snatch, and 46kg. in clean and jerk for a total of 81 kg.

Dave Lloyd Pacaldo contributed two golds in the senior boys 62-kg. category when he ranked first in snatch with 108 kg. and a total lift of 228 kg. He only placed second in the clean and jerk.

Zamboanga’s (Region 9) Rowel Garcia won three golds in the senior boys 56-kg. category, while teammate Patricia Nina Gregorio grabbed three golds in the senior girls 48-kg. category.

Meanwhile, ZJian Troy and ZJaina Tracy Villarta of Central Visayas won the gold medal in Modern Standard seniors division of the dance sports competition at the Bohol Cultural Center here Monday night.

Eleazar Sumaol and Lovely Princess Ungui of Soccsksargen (Region 12) and teammates Harold Caparos and Charo Cambarnan pocketed the silver and bronze medals, respectively.

In the youth division, Dave Torres and Roshua Adela Daelan of Davao (Region 11) captured the gold medal, Lucas Gerald Aranador and Ingrid Denis Parangan of Western Visayas (Region 6) got the silver and Dominic Cabrera and Babylyn Magadia of Mimaropa (Region 4-B) took the bronze.

In the Latin category, Harold Caparos and Cagandia delos Reyes of Soccsksargen bagged the gold medal in the seniors division. Eastern Visayas (Region 8) bets Mark Dave Cansancio and Lindsay Lumanta, and Norlan Banbayon and Novamae Manulat won the silver and bronze medals, respectively.

The youth division gold medal went to Mico Andrei Hechanova and Aleia Robbyn Muyco of Western Visayas. Xedric Lloyd Alvarez and Julie Mae Camins of Zamboanga clinched the silver while Lance Roy Laude and Kienth Nizza Kondo of Davao got the bronze.

Over at the University of Bohol, Western Visayas defeated Cagayan Valley (Region 2), 25-12, 25-16, 25-18; Davao downed Bicol (Region 5), 25-13, 25-16, 25-21; Central Visayas prevailed over Zamboanga, 25-10, 25-7, 25-11; Northern Mindanao outplayed Mimaropa, 25-13, 25-21, 25-20; and Caraga (Region 13) survived Ilocos (Region 1), 25-20, 25-20, 20-25, 25-22 in the senior boys volleyball elimination round Tuesday.

In the youth volleyball eliminations played at the Holy Name University, Calabarzon (Region 4-A) beat Central Luzon (Region 3), 25-23, 25-17; Bicol downed Mimaropa, 25-21, 25-17; Davao won over Northern Mindanao, 25-14, 23-25, 25-16; Zamboanga rallied past the Cordillera Administrative Region, 20-25, 25-19, 25-16; and Calabarzon defeated Bicol, 25-17, 25-11 in the boys category.

Winners in the girls category were Western Visayas over Central Luzon (25-16, 25-7), Calabarzon over Northern Mindanao (26-24, 25-21), Central Visayas over Davao (25-21, 25-17), Bicol over Cordillera (25-20, 25-21), and Western Visayas over Zamboanga (25-6, 25-7).

In sepak takraw, Cagayan Valley defeated Central Luzon (2-0), Western Visayas downed Bicol (2-0), Zamboanga demolished Central Visayas (2-0), and Davao clobbered Zamboanga (2-0) in the senior boys category while Zamboanga routed Northern Mindanao (2-0) in the youth boys category in the competition held at the Bingag Dauis Covered Court Tuesday.

More than 4,000 athletes from 16 regions are competing in the PRISAA National Games, which carries the theme, “Sports: Transcending Barriers Through Unity and Camaraderie”.
