EDSA Revolution highlights Pinoys’ love for country

MANILA — The bloodless EDSA People Power Revolution in 1986 highlights the Filipinos’ love for their country.

“(The) EDSA Revolution is a landmark of hope and unity that Filipino people never hesitated to show their love for country,” said Philippine Army (PA) spokesperson, Lt. Col. Louie Villanueva, in a message late Saturday.

In line with this strong love for the country, he said the PA will continue to perform its mandate to preserve democracy and protect the citizenry.

“The PA for its part, has a rich history of struggle and sacrifices that is synonymous to the desire and aspiration of the people (and) shall continue to perform its mandate to preserve democracy and protect the interest of its citizenry,” Villanueva added.

The bloodless revolution, which started Feb. 22 and ended on the 25th, toppled the 21-year rule of then President Ferdinand E. Marcos and placed Corazon C. Aquino to the presidency.
