Faithful urged to join ‘P40 for 40’ drive
MANILA— Caritas Manila appealed to the faithful to save PHP40 a day during the 40 days of Lent and donate the amount they saved to those who were in need, particularly to victims of calamities.
On its Facebook page, the social action arm of the Archdiocese of Manila urged the faithful to join their “Alay Kapwa’s 40 for 40 Campaign” for Lent where they could take part in several activities to save P40 per day.
The campaign will begin on Ash Wednesday, February 14.
Aside from abstaining from their favorite food and food cravings; not indulging in their habits or physical pleasures such as shopping and watching movies; and quitting from their vices such as smoking and drinking; Catholics could also donate items that they no longer need.
“You can also de-clutter your home with things you no longer need and donate one stuff a day for 40 days for people in need,” it said.
“At the end of the Lenten season that is a minimum of P1,600 that can be used as a lifeline by our brothers and sisters in times of life-threatening emergencies and crises,” Caritas Manila added.
The campaign is part of “Alay Kapwa,” the annual Lenten evangelization and fundraising program of Church for social services of the poor and most in need, especially during times of disaster.
It aims to raise awareness and funds that will be used to provide immediate help for the victims of Mayon Volcano eruption, continuous rehabilitation of Marawi City, and other emergencies through Caritas Damayan, the Preventive Health and Disaster Management program of the Caritas Manila.
