More than 700 infra projects completed in W. Visayas in 2017: DPWH
MANILA — The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed PHP5.715 billion worth of infrastructure projects numbering to more than 700 in Western Visayas Region last year.
In a statement, DPWH Region 6 Regional Director Wenceslao Leaño, Jr. reported that a total of 727 projects out of the 1,084 programmed projects in the amount of PHP23.310 Billion under FY 2017 Regular Infra Program, which includes construction of roads, bridges, flood control structures and other infrastructure to include roads leading to tourism areas in the islands of Panay, Negros and Guimaras.
The undertakings completed were 113.19 kilometers of national roads in the amount of PHP2.
270 billion; 528.13 lineal meters of bridges amounting to PHP485.576 million; 40 flood control projects in the amount of PHP928.142 million; 17.26 kilometers of roads leading to tourism destinations in the amount of PHP351.715 million; and 532 other infra projects in the amount of PHP117.300 million.
Aside from the completed projects, the DPWH Region 6 is also undertaking a total of 342 ongoing projects in the provinces of Iloilo, Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Guimaras, and Negros Occidental.
Likewise, it completed a total of 40 projects or 20.53 kilometers of farm-to-market road with a total value of PHP189 million funded by the Department of Agriculture.
For this year, DPWH Region 6 has a total allocation of PHP31.956 billion which is about 37 percent higher than the 2017 budget, to Build, “Build, Build, Build” using the peoples’ revenues to accelerate infrastructure development and foster faster sustainable growth.
