MANILA — Jarata siblings, Andrei and Marielle, of Agoo, La Union ruled in their respective categories in the 2018 Andrada Cup Age-Group Championships at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center on Friday.

Andrei, the No. 1 seed in the boys’ 14-under class, rallied past second seed Axl Lajon Gonzaga, 6-7 (9), 6-4, 6-1 in their championship match.

“I am happy to win. I am dedicating my victory to my mother who is in the hospital right now,” said the 12-year-old Andrei, who won the 12-under title last year.

Andrei, currently No. 2 in the Philippine Tennis Association (Philta) national rankings, is hoping to compete in the World Juniors Championships this year. Last year, he was in the team that competed in Thailand.

Marielle, seeded No. 2 in the girls’ 12-under category, also showed her determination after prevailing over top seed Angeline Alcala of Lucena City, Quezon, 6-3, 7-6 (1).

Andrei is in Grade 7 while Marielle is in Grade 5 at the Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University.
