MANILA— The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is set to open the Araneta Avenue –Magsaysay Avenue Flyover Project worth PHP32 million in Bacolod City, Negros Occidental on Dec. 19.

DPWH Secretary Mark Villar, together with Undersecretary Emil Sadain and Economic Counselor Laurent Estrade of the Embassy of France in the Philippines, are expected to lead the inauguration of the two-lane flyover on the busy intersection of Araneta Avenue and Magsaysay Avenue which caters to about 40,000 vehicles daily.

In a statement, the DPWH said the195-lineal meters flyover utilizing the prefabricated modular steel technology of Matiere S.A.S. under the French government assistance program will also help reduce carbon emissions that occur due to idling of vehicles at the junction during traffic.

Started in April 2017, the flyover is expected to eliminate delays especially for the through traffic movement at Araneta Avenue from downtown Bacolod City to Bago City on account of signalized intersection with multi direction traffic and will also result to savings on vehicle operating cost and travel time.

Others expected to grace the ceremonial opening of the 7.50-meter wide flyover with 280 lineal meters approaches include Bacolod City Rep. Greg G. Gasataya, Bacolod City Mayor Evelio R. Leonardia, DPWH Region 6 OIC-Director Wenceslao M. Leaño Jr. and the project directors of the DPWH Unified Project Management Offices namely Gil R. Villanueva, Patrick B. Gatan, Virgilio C. Castillo, and Sharif Madsmo H. Hasim.

Sadain commended the DPWH Unified Project Management Office, in-charge of the project under the Bridges Management Cluster.

He also acknowledged DPWH Bacolod City District Engineer Abraham Villareal and the city government of Bacolod for the successful completion of the project in time for the holiday rush.
