CEBU CITY— Mayor Tomas Osmeña on Tuesday lauded the achievement of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) confiscating almost PHP20 million worth of illegal drugs the past week.

The mayor praised the police after receiving the weekly report of CCPO Director Senior Superintendent Joel Doria that showed the seizure of 1.6 kilos of methamphetamine hydrochloride or “shabu” by city law enforcers from September 25 to October 1.

The confiscated drugs, weighing exactly 1,624.51 grams, has a Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB) value of PHP19,176,298, according to Doria.

Osmeña said the selling of drugs is still rampant in the city, but if the police would really be serious in their campaign, a lot more of the illegal stuff could be confiscated.

In his report, Doria also listed the weekly performance of the different police agencies and stations in the campaign against illegal drugs in the city.

The Cebu City Intelligence Branch recovered 1.2 kilos of shabu worth over PHP14 million last week and topped the CCPO performance list.

Next on the list is the Guadalupe Police Station seizing 235.94 grams of drugs worth PHP2.7 million, Mabolo Police Station with 40.96 grams of drugs seized worth PHP483,328, and Police Station 5 in Carbon recovering PHP325,208 worth of shabu (27.56 grams).

Coming in fifth on the list is the Waterfront Police Station hauling in 26.42 grams of drugs worth PHP311,756, and followed by Pari-an Police Station with PHP231,162 worth of shabu (19.59 grams) confiscated.

Police Station 2 confiscated 10.92 grams of drugs worth PHP128,000. Last week, the city government gave Police Station 2 PHP1 million worth of equipment for their anti-drug operations and active coordination with the Cebu City Office for Substance Abuse Prevention two weeks ago.

As of this writing, it was not known if the mayor would also give PHP1 million worth of equipment to the Guadalupe Police Station for being the top performing police station the recent week.

The Sawang Calero and Talamban Police Stations complete the list of top performers with PHP90,624 and PHP82,600 worth of shabu seized, respectively.
