Quebec daycare educators vote in favour of six day strike mandate

MONTREAL — Workers from 107 publicly funded daycares in Montreal and Laval, Que., have voted to give their union a six-day strike mandate.

The union representing the daycare educators says 95 per cent of members voted in favour during a secret ballot in Montreal on Saturday.

Unions in other parts of the province are also expected to hold strike votes in coming days.

Union spokesman Dany Lacasse says the main points of contention are salaries, working conditions, retirement, and the services offered to children.

The daycare educators have been without a collective agreement for more than two years.

No date has been set for a strike.
