MANILA — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has stopped the printing of the official ballots to be used in the October 23 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) polls.

Genevieve Guevarra, head of the poll body’s Printing Committee, they decided to halt the printing at the National Printing Office in Quezon City after encountering some administrative problems.

“We stopped printing last week because we saw some problems with our Project of Precincts (POPs) and the number of ballots per precinct,” she explained.

The Comelec has so far printed 15,021 official ballots for Batanes.

On the other hand, the poll body official noted that their schedule of tasks for the October 23 polls is on track despite the stoppage of printing of the ballots.

“We are still okay. We have a buffer with our deadlines set,” Guevarra added.

She said they expect to resume printing soon.

Early this month, the poll body started the printing of the 77,261,086 ballots to be used in the October elections.

The printing of the ballots still commenced despite despite the proposals in Congress seeking the postponement of the village and youth polls to a later date.
