ZAMBOANGA CITY, Aug. 4 — The Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) has ordered to conduct inventory of wharves and finger wharves in this city.

Lawyer Jay Daniel Santiago, PPA general manager, on Friday issued the order after he received reports on the existence of finger wharves and ports illegally operating in this city.

Santiago, who visited this city on Friday, said illegally-constructed wharves should not be allowed to operate.

He said the inventory will be conducted by the Zamboanga port manager, PPA legal department and port police in coordination with the Philippine Coastguard (PCG).

He also issued the inventory order as the PPA is mandated to regulate the operation of ports in the country except for piers under the management of special economic zone and autonomous regions.

Aside from inventory, Santiago said they will also check the purpose of the existence or operation of the private piers.

He said anyone who needs to own or operate a wharf must comply with the existing laws governing the operations of port.
