MANILA — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) plans to issue an upgraded voters’ ID.

This, as the poll body is set to hold a bidding next month for a service provider for the printing of the Enhance Voters’ ID.

The Comelec noted that it would be pilot tested in the National Capital Region (NCR).

The undertaking has an approved budget for the contract (ABC) of Php150 million for the printing of 3 million pieces of voters’ ID at a unit cost of PHP50.

“Bids received in excess of the ABC shall be automatically rejected at bid opening,” said the Comelec – Bids and Awards Committee (BAC) on its Invitation to Bid.

It added that the complete set of Bidding Documents may already be acquired by interested bidders until July 17, from Mondays to Saturdays, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the Comelec-BAC Secretariat office for a fee of PHP50,000.

The Pre-Bid Conference will be held on July 3 at 10 a.m. at the Comelec Session Hall for all prospective bidders. All bids must be submitted to the BAC Secretariat on or before 9 a.m. of July 17.

On the other hand, the opening of bids will be on the same day at 10 a.m. at the Comelec Session Hall.

Voters’ ID is a valid ID given to all registered voters. It is a valid ID recognized by all government offices and banks, although it is not a requirement for a person to vote.
