MANILA— The Philippine National Police Internal Affairs Service (PNP-IAS) will submit to PNP chief Director General Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa its recommendation on the case of Supt. Maria Christina Nobleza within 15 days from Monday.

PNP Inspector General Alfegar Triambulo The 10-day period given by IAS to Nobleza to submit her defense on the case expired on Monday.

Nobleza was arrested in Bohol province last month, together with her Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) member and lover Reenor Lou Dungon, when they evaded a police checkpoint.

Subsequently, Nobleza admitted that they attempted to help a fleeing Abu Sayyaf in Bohol, who was part of an ASG intercepted by authorities in Inabanga, Bohol.

Nobleza had earlier claimed that she was a “deep penetration agent”, and that she helped Dungon to rescue his colleague Abu Sayyaf in order to secure the trust of the terrorist group, which is part of her alleged mission.

Triambulo said that they would consider the defense of Nobleza, as well as the evidence against her and that they would recommend to the PNP chief the appropriate charges against Nobleza.

He added that they might recommend the filing of a case of “grave misconduct or conduct unbecoming of an officer” against Nobleza.

Triambulo expounded that the IAS has no authority to impose penalty on the cases of the policemen and that they can only recommend the filing of cases against erring policemen.
