MANILA–Close to 100 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) were recently provided with on-site competency assessment by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) in Riyadh and Al Khobar.

TESDA on Monday said these OFWs have already received a certificate after they completed the assessment.

Included in the qualifications were Computer Systems Servicing NC II with; Technical Drafting NC II, and Visual Graphic Design NC III.

It may be recalled that TESDA has launched the Onsite Assessment Program (OAP) in Riyadh and Al Khobar on April 28-30.

The agency said that soon, the same program will commence in other parts of the Middle East as well as in other countries.

The OAP aims to determine if a Filipino skilled worker abroad possesses the competencies required in his/her preferred work.

TESDA Director General, Secretary Guiling Mamondiong said the program aims to uplift the OFWs’s lives by providing them with better and high-paying jobs.

“The program seeks to support the goal of bringing the OFWs out of low-skilled, low paying and oppressive service work, and assist them to land in better paying and decent work,” he said.

Mamondiong has also encouraged OFWs interested in on-site assessment to inquire about the program at the Philippine Overseas Labor Offices (POLO) in their respective countries.

Meanwhile, representatives from TESDA will soon visit the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) to inspect and meet those who wanted to put up program registration and accreditation under the TESDA Assessment Centers.
