26 record breakers set in Palaro; Big City “overall champ”

SAN JOSE DE BUENAVISTA–National Capital Region’s (NCR) swimmers Maurice Sacho Ilustre, Jerald Jacinto and Nicole Meah Pamintuan capped the 26 tally of new meet records in the 60th edition of the Palarong Pambansa here.

NCR captured 98-66-45 (gold-silver-bronze) to capture the overall title anew in years; CALABARZON in second place with 41-57-57; Western Visayas at third with 38-29-40.

Rounding the overall standings: Negros Island Region 26-27-36, SOCCSKSARGEN 26-22-35, Cordillera Region 26-21-21, Davao Region 22-25-24, Northern Mindanao 20-20-42, Central Visayas 20-18-29, Central Luzon 15-18-28,Bicol Region 9-18-34, Cagayan Valley 7-15-14,Ilocos Region 7-12-21, CARAGA 7-12-15, Eastern Visayas 7-5-18 Zamboanga Peninsula 5-0-17, MIMAROPA 2-8-7 and Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao 1-4-4.

Ilustre of De La Zalle Zobel posted a smashing victories in 200-meter butterfly, 100-meter freestyle, 200 freestyle and the 400-meter 4 X 100 medley while Jacinto made a blazing splash in the 200-and 400-meter medley, and in the 100- and 200-meter buttlerfly, respectively.

While Pamintuan record breaking feats came in the 100- meter backstroke, 100- and 200-meter freestyle and 200- meter medley 4 X 50.

Swimming tallied a total of 17 new meet records. In athletics, CALABARZON star sprinter Veruel Verdadero sparked the seven new records in track.

Verdadero, captured a total of five golds – 100 meter ,200 meter ,400 meter, and the 4 X 400 meter relay and the record breaking performance in the 4X 100 meter relay.

Other record breakers in athletics are: NCR’s Francis Obiena (pole vault),Javelin throwers James Lozanes of Western Visayas (secondary boys) and Sylvian Faith Abunda of Northern Minanao (secondary girls), discuss thrower Kate Julienne Martinez of Negros Island Region, and Ana Marie Eugenio 400 meter hurdles.

And archers Charmaine Angela Villamor of Baguio City (40 meters) and Kennyben Gallogo of CARAGA (Single Fita).

Other results: Boxing (secondary boys) –light mosquito weight gold- Mario Angelo Vidal (Northern Mindanao),silver- Christian Genada of MIMAROPA, bronze- NinoCardoza of Bicol and Jerick Tingal of CARAGA; mosquito weight gold – Jericho Acaylar of Northern Mindanao, silver-Mark Jonas Parcon of MIMAROPA, bronze – Dexter Ziganay of Davao region and Renz Montano of Western Visayas; lightpaper weight – gold –Carl John Austria of Davao Region, silver- B-Boy Cenita of NCR, bronze- Daniel Cabudoy of Northen Mindanao and Jaycarl Begonia MIMAROPA; pinweight – gold -Criz Russu Laurente of SOCCSARKGEN, silver- John Michael Diocares of Davao region, bronze—John Nino Vega of Central Visayas and Caasi Salvador of Eastern Visayas; lightflyweight – gold – Dave Mark Apolinario of SOCCSKSARGEN,silver- Rey Mark Alicaba of Davao Region , bronze- Jereme Puig of Negros Island region and Ronilo Layasan Jr. of Northern Mindanao.
