LOS ANGELES–”The Fate of the Furious”, Universal’s latest film, unsurprisingly held the top spot for the second week in a row, adding an estimated 38.7 million U.S. dollars to its total in North America.

The eighth installment in “The Fast and the Furious” franchise continues its record-smashing run around the world with an international weekend estimate of 163.4 million U.S. dollars in 65 territories. The international total earning to date is 744.8 million U.S. dollars. Combined with the U.S. and Canada estimated total of 163.6 million U.S. dollars, the worldwide total is 908.4 million U.S. dollars, according to studio figures collected by comScore.

It is the No. 1 film in the world for the second week in a row. The worldwide total will cross one billion U.S. dollars this week.

“The film has been an absolute monster internationally where it has truly become a box office phenomenon as it approaches the one billion U.S. dollars mark worldwide after just two weeks in theaters,” comScore senior media analyst Paul Dergarabedian told Xinhua.

DreamWorks Animation and Fox’s “The Boss Baby” was on track to be second place again, bringing in an estimated 12.75 million U.S. dollars in its fourth weekend to push its gross earning to 136.99 million U.S. dollars in North America.

Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast” landed in third place again with an estimated 9.97 million U.S. dollars.

Disney’s animal documentary “Born in China” earned 5.1 million U.S. dollars to open in fourth place. The documentary, directed by Chuan Lu, takes moviegoers on a grand journey into the wilds of China with three animal families — the majestic panda, the savvy golden monkey and the elusive snow leopard.

The film has already earned 9.4 million U.S. dollars in China during its release there, bringing the international cume to 9.5 million U.S. dollars. Combined with the North American gross of 5.147 million, the film has earned 14.6 million U.S. dollars to date globally.

Warner Bros.’ “Going in Style” finished fifth with an estimated 5 million U.S. dollars in its third weekend. The PG-13 film has earned around 31.7 million U.S. dollars after 17-days on the big screen.
