Catholic prelates pray for safety of delegates, success of ASEAN summit in PHL

MANILA–Catholic prelates on Monday said they will be praying for the safety of the delegates and the successful hosting of the 30th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) summit in Pasay City this week.

At the same time, Lipa Archbishop Ramon Arguelles believed that ensuring the security of the public particularly the delegates, majority of which are heads of states should always be the priority even without the presence of the leaders in the region.

“By praying for a peaceful region. This should however be done constantly not only when big shots come around,” he said.

For Marbel Bishop Dinualdo Gutierrez, aside from prayers, he urged the public to be vigilant.

“Pray and be vigilant,” he said.

“Aside from praying for their safety, we can avoid perhaps areas that will worsen the traffic problem that we have,” said Cubao Bishop Honesto Ongtioco.

Novaliches Emeritus Bishop Teodoro Bacani said that “mostly by prayer” when asked on how the church will help secure the ASEAN summit to be held from April 26-29 at the at the Philippine International Convention Center.

The Philippine National Police will deploy some 26,000 policemen to ensure the security of the attendees of the four-day event
