MANILA –The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) urged local chief executives to repeal local ordinances, which imposes taxes on transported goods and passengers entering their territorial jurisdictions.

“This is the nth time that we have issued a memorandum regarding the illegal imposition of pass-through fees on transported goods and passengers.

We will be stricter this time in monitoring LGU compliance to this directive,” DILG secretary Ismael Sueno said in a statement Tuesday.

Sueno cited the Local Government Code does not allow pass-through charges for transported goods and passengers.

The DILG chief said the department will monitor the compliance of the local government units on the repeal through its regional offices.

The department added DILG regional offices are now required to submit a regional summary form, which contains the local ordinances on the imposition of toll fees and other fees for the use of access roads.
