DILG completes security preparations for Miss Universe pageant

MANILA –The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) has completed the security preparations for the 36th Miss Universe beauty pageant, to be held at the SM Mall of Asia (MOA) Arena on January 30.

DILG Undersecretary Emily Padilla said in a statement that the department and other government agencies are strengthening their individual security plans, while they continue to conduct site inspections at the SM MOA Arena, SMX Convention, Solaire Hotel and Conrad Hotel. Conrad Hotel will serve as the official house of the 84 Miss Universe candidates for the entire duration of the event.

She noted that the Philippine National Police (PNP) expects its security preparations to be a success. The government created the Committee on Security, Peace and Order and Emergency Preparedness and Response for the pageant.

”Although we cannot divulge details of the security aspect of our preparations, rest assured that we in the DILG, together with the other agencies concerned, are doing our best to make this historical event memorable and successful,” she said.

The DILG official further pointed out that the security cluster has also finalized the budget and logistical requirements for the event.

Apart from the PNP, the following are also taking part in the preparations — the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Department of Health (DOH), National Intelligence Coordinating Agency (NICA), Office of Civil Defense – National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (OCD-NDRRMC), Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), Bureau of Immigration (BI), Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA), Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) and the Inter Agency Council for Traffic (IACT).

The 84 candidates were presented at the Governor’s Ball, which was held at the SM MOA Arena on Monday.

They will also visit Oslob, Cebu; Davao; Vigan; Siargao Island and Donsol, Sorsogon.
