MANILA—Incumbent Makati City Mayor Romulo “Kid” Peña Jr. is set to file an election protest for alleged election fraud.

Peña said together with his legal team will file election protest on Friday morning before the Commission on Elections (Comelec) in Makati against District 2 Representative and now mayor elect Abigail Binay on alleged manipulating election results.

Vice President Jejomar Binay daughter, Congresswoman Abby Binay was proclaimed as the city’s mayor with a total votes of 153,487 against incumbent acting mayor Kid Peña who has 137,803 votes.

According to Peña, allegations of vote buying incidence came from testimonies from different barangays of Makati as their experiences and scenarios witnessed during the May 9 polls.

Meanwhile, more than 1,000 supporters of Peña present on Thursday at the Makati City Hall Quadrangle organized a fund raising campaign for the manual recount of the votes lodged by Pena.

Peña thanked the people for their unending support and appealed for them to stay calm while they are still on the process of verifying evidences before filing the election protest.

“Sa inyo pong lahat na andito, sanay na sanay po ako sa ganitong kalagayan. Pero nais ko lang pong ipaalala sa inyo meron daw pong iba na para bang bigla bigla nalang nawawala, sanay din po ako sa ganun. Ang importante lang naman ay ngayong hapon na pong ito pinadama niyo ang nararamdaman ng lungsod ng Makati,” Peña said.
