Senior citizen making 4th solo cycling feat to Thailand and Singapore
KOTA BAHARU – Senior citizen Wan Hashim Wan Mahmood is challenging himself once again on a solo cycling feat – this time, on a three-round trip to Thailand and Singapore.
He will set off for the trip, covering 8,000 kilometres in 80 days, on Nov. 26.
“I want to break my personal record by cycling for longer distance, that is by making a three-round trip from here to Singapore and then to South Thailand.
“It will also be a test of my mental and physical fitness as I’ll be cycling during the monsoon season,” he told Bernama here.
The 70-year-old grandfather said it would be his fourth solo cycling expedition during which he would help promote Visit Kelantan Year 2016.
Wan Hashim, who has six children and 18 grandchildren, had been on a cycling expedition in Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Indonesia and Singapore, covering 5,319 kilometres.
His name was entered in the Malaysia Book of Records as the oldest man to have cycled solo around Peninsular Malaysia.
“I want to help promote my birth state by promoting it to the world and also in appreciation of the state government’s confidence in me to be the Kelantan tourism ambassador,” he added.
Wan Hashim said he would bring along pamphlets on places of tourist attractions in Kelantan to be distributed to the public along his cycling route.
On his preparation for the feat, he said he cycled between 20 and 40 kilometres daily and once a week, would cycle for 80 kilometres.
“I also eat healthy by consuming more vegetables and fruits, and also drink lemon with honey every morning and night,” he added.
