MANILA – The Department of Justice (DOJ) issued a subpoena to American singer Chris Brown to appear in the preliminary investigation hearing of Iglesia Ni Cristo’s (INC) estafa case against him.

Aside from Brown, his Filipino-Canadian promoter, John Michael Pio Roda, was also summoned to appear in the hearing scheduled on Friday, 2 p.m.

“You are hereby directed to obtain, personally or through representatives, copies of the complaint, supporting affidavits and other evidence submitted by the complainant. You or your representative are/is likewise entitled to examine all other evidence submitted by complainant,” the subpoena read.

Should Brown and Roda fail to comply with the orders, it ‘shall be considered as a waiver of your right to be furnished copies of the complaint, supporting affidavits and other documents, as well as to examine all other evidence submitted by the complainant.’

It can be recalled that INC’s Maligaya Development Corp. (MDC) earlier filed an estafa complaint against Brown and his promoter after the RnB singer failed to show up for a New Year’s Eve concert at the Philippine Arena on December 31, 2014.

Just last week, Brown was in the Philippines and performed at a mall in Pasay City. The American singer was then prevented from leaving the country after the Bureau of Immigration (BI) issued a lookout bulletin order against him. Brown, however, was later on allowed to depart after securing a clearance.

Roda, on the other hand, remained detained at the BI jail. He has been currently facing a deportation case for being an undesirable alien.
