MANILA — Playing the role of the lenient father in the movie, “The Breakup Playlist,” Dennis Padilla says his role gave him a lot to relate about.

Padilla said his parenting style in the movie where he played the father of Sarah Geronimo is the same way he treats his children in real life.

He gives freedom to his children and treats them as peers, but Padilla said, when things go overboard, he knows when to instill his line of authority and show his disciplinarian side.

“May mga bahagi sa buhay na pagiging lenient ng magulang sa anak, kumbaga may cut-off,” Padilla said.

(There are instances in life that parents need to be lenient to their children, and there must be a cut-off.)

“’Pag lumagpas ‘yan sa limit or boundary na nadi-disrespect mo na ang parents mo, it’s about time to remind them na, ‘Anak, hindi mo ako kabarkada, tatay mo ako.’”

(Once they reach the boundary or the limitation and they no longer respect their parents. It’s time to remind them, ‘Child, I’m not your peer, I’m your father.’)

Padilla added that as a father, he knows how to give freedom to his children.

Padilla, the father of Julia Barretto and four other children with estranged wife Marjorie Barretto earlier admitted that he has not been in speaking terms with Julia.

This is why Padilla admitted that some of the scenes in the film became a bit personal for him particularly the scene when Sarah apologized to him.
